Safety Town

Aexcel Corporation has partnered with the Mentor Safety Town to assist in providing an eco-friendly course for youth attendees. Each year The Mentor Junior Women’s Club offers Safety Town, an awareness program to teach young children safety while providing parents with peace of mind. The program includes classes on fire safety, stranger danger, poison prevention, and an outside mini town with instructions on pedestrian/traffic/bike rules.

Aexcel Corporation saw a unique opportunity to give back to their community by providing supplies and labor to sealcoat and paint the mini town with eco-friendly options that they produce locally in Mentor. Aexcel donated their eco-friendly BioSEALSAFE™ asphalt driveway sealer and BioStripe® a soy-based, eco-friendly traffic paint to complete the mini town course.

The opportunity to provide a safe soy-based option for the approximate 300-400 students who attend Mentor Safety Town each year was the motivating factor for the partnership.

Contrary to traditional asphalt driveway sealers and paint, BioSEALSAFE™ and BioStripe® have a mild, inoffensive odor without containing the microparticles that traditional asphalt sealants and paint contain. These microparticles contain dangerous PAHs that ultimately can be ingested by you or your family. These microparticles get transferred to your children’s clothes and skin, to your pet, and through runoff into your drinking water, garden and food supply. BioSEALSAFE™ and BioStripe® are safer for children and pets because it is a PAH-free soy-based product.

When Aexcel approached Mentor Safety Town offering to donate supplies to resurface and paint the Safety Town mini town course at their new home, Ridge Elementary, the Safety Town team got to work finding out more about the products and helping to coordinate with the city of Mentor. “We were excited for the donation of asphalt sealer and paint for our new course and wanted to make sure it was a good fit. After reviewing with the city and finding out more about the safety of the products, we determined it was a perfect fit for our project,” said Julie Patty, Director at Mentor Safety Town.

Aexcel Corporation in conjunction with Mentor City workers started work in May to seal and paint the course. “The driveway sealer and paint were very impressive. The sealer provided a

clean super black coverage in one coat, and the paint was easy to apply using our striping machine and provided vibrant color to the course,” said a City of Mentor Employee.

Safety Town is presented by the Junior Women’s Club in partnership with the Mentor Fire and Police Departments along with the Mentor Public Library and The Mentor School System and runs from June 5, 2023, through June 16, 2023.
